I am a creative being, not a great business mind, and have been searching for something to help free up my time by making me extra money. I needed to release the strangling sensation that having to work continuously was having on my sense of self, my creativity, and ultimately, the way I interacted with the world. I considered a second job to help pay the bills, but couldn't find anything suitable - and really, working MORE to earn a little extra would have left me feeling more anxious, with less time to actively pursue my creative outlets, thus impacting even further on how I
was engaging with life.
I gave vending a go - and am 5 weeks into it. I am not an accountant, and so set up a very rudimentary spreadsheet for myself, quite literally, a column for what was coming in and another for what was going out. The first week, I was learning and feeling my way around it. I was a bit nervous of the physical nature of the work, as well as the safety aspect of being a girl, travelling alone with stock and cash. Very soon I realised that the site was perfectly safe, that the people working there are just wonderful, and that I am getting a workout 3 mornings a week while making money. I can more than cope with the physical nature of the job, by getting a trolley to pull the cans, and a big suitcase on wheels for the chocolates and chips.
It IS girl friendly, logical, and moulds organically to the life that I want, by fitting in with when I can be there to fill the machines. The more I fill
my machines, the more money I make - so I choose to go every second day. Very quickly, it became evident which product lines sell, and which are not very popular, making purchasing further stock a cinch. Today, I am going to investigate a supplier that can deliver bulk stock to my home, further freeing up my time.
I am taking the time now to notice how many people sing and whistle while going about their business. I have time to sit and have a cup of tea with a magazine every day. The more free time I have, the more I notice the magic of life, and after all, is that not the WHOLE POINT? To enjoy the journey?
Enough said. Its a brilliant second income stream. Highly recommended.
Kind regards,
Mel
